MCDOT to Host Public Forum on Bus Route Changes Feb. 18

The Montgomery County Department of Transportation (MCDOT) will hold a public forum on Tuesday, Feb. 18, at 6 p.m. The in-person event will take place at the Mid-County Regional Services Center, 2425 Reedie Drive, 2nd Floor Conference Room, in Wheaton.

MCDOT seeks public feedback on proposed changes to Ride On bus routes 10, 34, 42, and a new route 40. The forum will also address weekend service changes to Metrobus routes L8 and T2. Planned changes are set to take effect Sunday, June 29.

The proposals are part of the Year 1 implementation of the Ride On Reimagined study and WMATA’s Better Bus redesign:

  • Ride On Route 10 (Twinbrook Station-Hillandale): Discontinue service and replace it with new Metrobus Routes M42, M44, and M60.
  • Ride On Route 34 (Aspen Hill-Friendship Heights): Realign to Connecticut Avenue between University Boulevard and Veirs Mill Road. Service to Wheaton and Friendship Heights Metro Stations will end, with the southern endpoint moving to Bethesda Metro Station.
  • Ride On Route 40 (New): This new route will replace parts of Metrobus Routes Q2, Q4, and Q6 between Wheaton Metro Station and Montgomery College-Rockville.
  • Ride On Route 42 (North Bethesda-Montgomery Mall): The northern endpoint will shift to Twinbrook Metro Station. Low-ridership stops on Boiling Brook Parkway and near the William F. Bolger Center will be discontinued.
  • Metrobus Route L8 (Aspen Hill-Friendship Heights): WMATA will replace this route with Metrobus M22, operating on weekdays, Saturdays, and Sundays. Ride On will no longer offer weekend service.
  • Metrobus Route T2 (Rockville-Friendship Heights): WMATA will replace this route with Metrobus M82, providing weekday and weekend service. Ride On weekend service will end.

Additional information, including route maps, is available on the MCDOT website.
